A Gentle Step-by-Step Guide

If this is your first time using a marker-compatible airbrush, take your time — you’re not doing anything wrong if it doesn’t spray perfectly on the first try.

Marker airbrushing works a little differently from traditional paint airbrushes. Once you understand how the marker tip, airflow, and angle work together, the process becomes much easier and more predictable.

Step 1Attach and Align the Marker

Attach the marker to the clip on the airbrush

Carefully align the lowest point of the marker tip with the center of the air outlet, as shown in the image.

This alignment is important: the airflow needs to hit the marker tip at the right position to pull ink out evenly and smoothly.

Note: Think of the airflow as brushing pastthe tip, not pushing directly into it.

Step 2Straighten and Secure

Once the marker is attached, gently straighten the marker body so it sits naturally and securely in the clip.

There’s no need to force it — the marker should feel balanced and relaxed.

(Note: If the marker tip and air outlet already look well aligned at this point, you may skip Step 3.)

Step 3: Adjust the Angle for Chisel Tips

For chisel-tip markers, a small angle adjustment makes a big difference.

Slowly rotate the marker slightly to the left until the air outlet is no longer visible when viewed from the front.

Make sure the flat side of the chisel tip faces the airflow, rather than the sharp edge.

This allows the air to catch more ink and creates a smoother, more consistent spray.

If ink still doesn’t spray properly

If you’ve followed all the steps above and the ink still doesn’t spray as expected, don’t worry — this is usually not a setup issue.

The most common reason is slight ink dryness during shipping. When a marker dries a little, the airflow may need a bit of help to restart the ink flow.
